Pole fishing on the Danube Ráckevei
Published: 2011. October 31. | Source: Gergely Talabér | News

I had two alternatives for the day after my match fishing day in Dömsöd. The first one was the more serious feeder fishing for carp in the middle of the river bed, far-far from me. However, it looks like over the past few days, the carps would like to retreat, I cant see any catch around me. The other possibility was my pole in my bag. The wind was strong, therefore the pole fishing seemed very hard. I had just limited time for the fishing, so I choose the pole. And what was the result? I will tell you, join me!

This was my first catch, he took
the maggots with an extreme spectacular take.

I had some bream groundbait from the previous day, I mixed it with the rest of the original bag, with some liquid flavour and maggots. Despite the wind, I was able shot the maggots around the float. My rod was the 6 meters long ET Rubin Pole. I joined the line quickly, the mail line was size 0.14 and the float was 4 gram. I did not use a swivel this time, the hook lenght was 8 inch size 0.12 line with a small but effective size 14 hook. The main lead weight was put 10 inch higher above the mainline-hook length join knot.

The combination of the groundbait
and the maggots was successfull.

The first catch
was a nice little rudd.

I knew that the bed of the Danube looks extremely different, as the waters I usually attend, but I was highly surprised, when I set the float to 4.5 yards deep, in 5 yards distance from the swim platform. A that point, I got a new challenge, because the river bed was full of seaweed. After I set the rig, the whole fishing pointed to a true 13 yards pole with a very long top set. In the middle of the morning I have a though that I will try to catch the fish in mid water, but than I rejected it. It wasn’t a good idea to try it in the waving like this.

I shot just small
portions of maggots.

The weight of each fish
was getting bigger and bigger.

First I made the rig ready for fishing, than I dropped the bailing in nest to the float. I did not use many balls, just 4 or 5 was dropped, but I frequently dropped others in every 3-5 minutes trough the event. The maggots was shot after the balls, two small portion after one every one-hand squeeze ball. The groundbait was sinking faster than the maggots, therefore there was some bait in midwater too almost all the time.

So, here is a bigger one,
this water also gives you,
if you ask wisely.8.jpg

It is worth to varie the colours
of the maggots on the hook.
The fishes will prefer it.

After some minutes, I had the first take. Nice, one span long breams were coming a caught the sinking maggots, fortunately they like the triple maggot bait on the hook too. Before I got some shouting from you, I have to tell you, that the size of the hook was not occasional. Nor I put the main lead weight close to the hook. I try to catch the bigger breams in the deeper water layers, while I tryed to avoid to catch any bleak. Therefore as I planned, the main weight - and the hook too - was sinking fast down to the river bed, but on the last 1 yard the sinking bait slowed down to a natural speed.

In the first hour, I used the bulk shotting pattern, but later in the morning I drawed them to one span distance, as the breams are coming upper from the river bed.

One shot bait indicator
at the join
of the hooklink
and the main line.

It looks like my plan was worked, the early little fishes was gone after some time, then the bigger breams just arrived. It is worth to make some plan before we go fishing, than we can give a try and see it was right or not. On this way we can learn a lot even it was working or not. I caught beautiful fishes one after the other, later some pearl roaches also joined.

Just a little perch with a big take!

I dind’t want to fish at the maximum distance, the float was within
1 yard from the tip.

The pole was working and I just enjoyed the fishing and asked myself “Why don’t use my poles more often than now?” Despite of the wind, my rig was never tangled. The simplicity of it and the slow, calm moving of the tackle gave no chance to it. But there was one thing that I did not recognised before the morning. My floats’ tip was yellow. I did not want to take off the rig and use an other - red - one in the strong wind. In addition, I would not see the red one too, because for these weather conditions, the black one is the best. I decided to paint the float tip. The problem was that I left my float painter at home, I had just my extreme small diameter alcohol based pen, what I usually use for writing on plastic bags. I had no choice, after few angry words I started to paint the tip.

The 4 gram float was working very well trough the whole event despite of the strong waving.

The painted float tip
can be seen better.

It was much easier to see the takes in the strong waves thanks it the painted float tip. To be honest, the4 gram float seems to be too big for a single pole, but it was required due to the waving, and please keep in mind that pulling the deepest shot was enough to see the take even in the windy weather. At every takes the one small black point doubled thanks to the black body of the float. And then the next fish was fighting on the hook. While I was fishing, I noticed that there are gaps between the boards of the floor. These gaps were the same as my disgorgers. And my disgorgers was falling one after the other, into the deep water under the pier. I cant say anything, there is a little hole in all the disgorgers, please follow my example and use a small piece of line to take this small but useful tool in your neck.

The greater competitors are coming.

Fishing with this simple tackle was enriched me with great experinece again!

All in all, I enjoyed this windy fishing time. Fishing in the fresh air and see the beautiful landscape refilled me, and of course I caught nice fishes. Fishing the pole gave me an intensive experience again, therefore I decided that I will take my poles with me in my bag all the time in the future!

The result of the quick fishing.

A Perfect Match: ET Wizard Classic 2,10 and Wizard Spin 3000
Published: 2015. October 19. | Source: Halmos Mihály | News

Under the colorful coat of this rod, you find a true workhorse. It is indeed a slim rod made of IM8 carbon with enough power in reserve. The neoprene handle is a delight to touch. During fishing, the rod becomes your elongated forearm, which helps you detect every shy bite and vibration of your lure. Although it is a strong fishing rod, it is not heavy at all. Yes, I am talking about the latest spinning rod family of Energo Team, namely, Wizard Classic Jig and Drop Shot rods. The...

Ultra Light Dream: ET Wizard Drop Shot Spinning Rod and Wizard Spin Reel

In my previous article, I mentioned that Drop Shot rods are one of my favorites, and their performance cannot be overestimated. This might sound biased, but trust me; I know what I’m talking about. After months of using these rods, I can safely say that they satisfy all my needs when it comes to ultra light spinning. Fishing with little soft baits cannot be more enjoyable, and, of course, let’s not forget about wobblers either. I’m not exaggerating –...

Learning more about Nase and Rubin Bolo Rods
Published: 2015. October 19. | Source: Halmos Mihály | News

t Nowadays, it is not easy for a new Bolognese rod to make a name for itself. It should be either at a reasonable price or of outstanding quality to win anglers’ sympathy. Unfortunately, these two criteria rarely meet. Energo Team’s Rubin Bolo has been widely used for years not just by Hungarian but foreign anglers, too. However, ET Nase Bolo, which made its debut in spring 2015, is considered a novelty.   Rubin Bolo is a real workhorse. Nase Bolo,...

Bolognese again! The New Tanaka Bolognese has Arrived

This year was full of surprises for devoted bolognese anglers. As I’m a bolognese angler too, I feel lucky to have got to know two excellent bolognese rods within six months. We have just introduced Nase Bolo, and now we have another rod that makes its debut. I can safely say that this is a magnificient rod too. Its price category reflects its unique features.  If I had to rank Energo Team’s rods I would definitely put Blade-Tanaka-Nase bolognese rods to the first three...
